Frequently Asked Questions

Here is our list of the questions we hear most often. If you have a question and you don't see the answer here, please feel free to contact us.

What Is The Bird & Cage Co?
The Bird & Cage Co. is an online retail store dedicated to keeping quality high and price low. The owners, Elaine & Earl Williams, keep the customer's satisfaction in mind and welcome all questions or suggestions. We want you to feel safe while shopping with us on our secure website.

Will You Sell My Private Information?
We are absolutely dedicated to our customers and hope you will tell all your friends about your splendid shopping experience with The Bird & Cage Co. Be assured that all information you give to The Bird & Cage Co. will be kept confidential. Read more about our policies here

What Does Shipping Cost?
We offer free shipping in the continental US on every order worth $25 or more. Orders under $25 are subject to a handling fee of $5.95. If you live elsewhere and wish to place an order, please contact us for a shipping quote.

How Big A Cage Does My Bird Need?
Actually, in our opinion, the larger the cage the better. Birds need their cages to be roomy so they can have plenty of room for toys and activities. Remember too, that many species, particularly those belonging to non-climbing species, need to be able to fly at least a little, to stay properly healthy.

As so often happens, the best answer may be a compromise; buy a cage large enough for your species of bird(s), taking in consideration your budget and the room you have available for cage placement. Please feel free to contact us with any detailed questions concerning your bird and it's cage.

What Bar Spacing Is Best?
Housing your bird in a "safe house" is very important. The smaller species (finches, canaries, budgies, lovebirds) need cages with 1/2 inch bar spacing. Cockatiels and Small Conures can be housed with 1/2 inch bar spacing but bars should not be spaced any wider than 5/8ths of an inch. Cages that have 3/4 inch bar spacing and 1 inch bar spacing are for the larger Parrots.

If you want to know what bar spacing is safest for a specific species, please feel free to contact us. Your "feathered friend's" happiness and safety is our Number 1 priority!

Is the paint on your cages safe for bird(s)?
Most of our cages are powder coated and baked enamal painted. Powder Coating a cage is a process adherring paint to metal without any harmful toxins. The enamal has been tested to be non-toxic to birds. It does not contain lead or zinc of any significant value.

A few of our cages are galvanized with the safer electro-plating process rather than the cheaper but far more dangerous 'hot-dip' process. For a more in-depth look at metal toxicity in birds, see the feature article in Issue 67 of the Flock Talk eZine Archives.

My Cage Was Damaged During Delivery, What Do I Do?
Although we at Bird & Cage. as well as our shipping company, take great effort to see that you receive your merchandise intact, things sometimes happen. If you receive a package damaged, please contact The Bird & Cage Co. at (281) 420-2201 or email ew@birdandcage.com within three (3) business days from the date of delivery, and we will work with you to correct any problems with your delivery. Please, do not call the shipping company.

Do You Have A Catalog?
Sorry, we do not have any printed catalogs. In order to keep our prices low, we have chosen to sell through our website, instead of the expense of a printed catalog. This, in return, is ecologically sound and we are saving trees!
